Also known as “Birnenhonig”, “Birähung” or “Birnel”, Birnendicksaft is a concentrate made from pear juice. Pear juice is slowly boiled down by hand until it has a thick, honey-like consistency.
Birnendicksaft goes wonderfully with a wide variety of cheeses, potatoes, yoghurt, as a sweetener for tea or as a sugar substitute in baking e.g. “Luzerner Lebkuchen” (Lucern gingerbread).
