The “Loto” variety is an oval, elongated rice of excellent quality, perfectly suited for risotto. It is very flavourful and has a wonderfully consistent texture.
Since 1997, Terreni alla Maggia has been pioneering rice cultivation in Switzerland. They grow dry rice, which requires less water and produces less CO₂ compared to conventional rice cultivation.
The rice fields are located in Ascona and Locarno at an altitude of 197 metres above sea level, near the protected natural area of Lake Maggiore, as well as in the Magadino plain in Gordola.
